Five Ways to Pamper Your Pooch

In a few months it will be exactly two years from the day we welcomed Rocky, our dog, into the family. For us it took a bit of learning and getting used to since we had never had a dog in the family and hadn't even had a pet since we were kids. But bringing a pet into your life and having it become a part of the family, is the easy part. Rocky has blended in to our lives and lifestyle nicely and at this point it's hard to even remember a time when she wasn't there. 

If there is one thing that could be better when it comes to caring for Rocky, it's that she needs more attention. She is always looking to play and have someone hold her, she likes to ride in the front of my moms car and always wants to be at someone's feet. We always talk about how she was someones beloved pet before being abandoned on the streets because she is always ready to go when she hears those keys and never wants to be alone. But we can get pretty busy and there are days that there is only time for a few quick bathroom walks. And it's really hard to look at that face with her sad eyes when we all walk in and out and have to shake our head at her as she gets ready to join us at the door. She's really good about it and never fusses, but it's hard to let her down so much. 

It doesn't actually take a lot to make our pets happy, even when we are really busy. Yesterday I worked until 4:45 and still had some time to come home and spend some quality time with her. That's why today I want to share a few tips for giving your pet a nice pampering afternoon. 

Visit the park: Rocky loves nothing more than to run like crazy around the park. It's during these trips to her favorite park that you see what Rocky must have been like in her puppy and younger years. She runs so fast, she rolls through the grass and she has to investigate every single scent and sound. 

But really what she likes to do most is hang out with us. After she's done running in circles and chasing butterflies she comes to sit down and enjoy the sights and sounds from my feet. This is where I know what she really wants is that quality time, where she can feel wanted and part of a family. 

Go shopping at PetSmart:  Pets are always welcomed at PetSmart which means that Rocky can go shopping for her food with us. Plus PetSmart is full of everything else that we need for her care, so it's a one-stop shop for her needs and she really likes sitting in the cart and looking around.

Treat your pooch to some goodies: I needed to stock up on her routine bath care items but I also picked up a new leash and toy for Rocky since she's been so good. She's not a super playful dog but she likes having one toy by her bed.
