Cereal has always been a huge part of our daily lives. We grew up on cereal and even though my sisters and I are now older, we still love to pull out a plate and have a nice bowl or cereal with ice-cold milk. There is something for me, that is very comforting about always being able to go back to those flavors that I remember eating since I was a child.
Cereal for breakfast is always a good option, and sets me off on a good start so that I don't want to stop by the first drive-thru I get to. It also gets my brain working and my body going for what is sure to be an extremely long day. I also like to pack little cereal baggies for snacking and especially for giving Julius when we are out. What mom doesn't pack goodie bags of cereal in a diaper bag? Sometimes, when I get home at night with very little energy, all I want is that bowl of cereal before hitting the sack. Or how about that midnight snack when you suddenly wake up craving something to eat. Cereal!
Some of my favorite cereals are from Quaker®. I went through a phase when I was about 7 where all I would eat was Quaker® Life, and I still love those delicious little cinnamon filled squares. But I am a grownup now and have found other options that are just as good, but for a more refined "grownup" palate. These are: Quaker® Real Medleys®, Quaker® Oatmeal Squares and Quaker® Simply Granola.
Some Quaker® cereals are filled with real fruit and nuts which make them very versatile and easy to use as an ingredient in other dishes. More than to cook, I love to bake and I like adding these into cupcakes, brownies and granola clusters or granola that I make for snacking. Today I am going to share how I recently used Quaker® Real Medleys® to give my favorite fruit salad extra texture and flavor.
I started by grabbing the two flavors of Quaker® Real Medleys® and all the other ingredients for it at Walmart. Melons are not in season right now but you can still find pre-packed packs of it in the produce section. The small package has enough for make myself a salad and leaves extra watermelon for Julius to enjoy.
Real Medleys Fruit Salad (Serves 1)
Pre-cut fruit package 1lb
Cottage Cheese 2 tablespoons
Quaker® Real Medleys® 1/4 cup (or more!)
Honey for drizzling on top
Cut fruit into smaller pieces and top with one or two generous dollops of cottage cheese. I love to top of with a few generous drizzles of Don Viktor honey. Break up the Quaker® Real Medleys® with your hands and sprinkle all over your fruit salad. The big chunks of real cherries, almonds, pecans and granola clusters will give your salad that extra crunch and flavor.
This salad is the definition of simple but delicious. After having eaten so heavy in the last months I am incorporating a lot more fruit and vegetables into my busy weekdays. I can make my son some soup with a side of watermelon and I can sit down next to him and enjoy this salad in just minutes.
Who knew eating whole grains could be so delicious! This really is my favorite fruit salad and I don't even have to wait for summer to enjoy it since Walmart has everything I need for it. Share the Quaker® love: what's your favorite way to incorporate Quaker® cereals into your recipes.
