5 Tips to Make Laundry Day Better

I've always enjoyed doing the laundry and have been doing my own laundry since I was about 11 years old. I know that most teens prefer for their parents to do their laundry but I have always been the opposite, instead I used to wait till mom was done with the rest of the laundry and I would begin my own. Folding our warm clothes together soon became our thing and it's one of the best parts of doing laundry in my family. It's something we've done since I was a child, I remember mom would bring in the clean clothes and all of us girls would gather around and help sort and fold. Folding warm, scented, clean clothes is very therapeutic. 

I'm staying with my mom again so we are back to our routine of folding and sorting together. It'll be me folding clothes, mom looking at Instagram and showing me makeup photos while China texts on the couch and Sammy sits at the table with her homework. Sort as you go: I purchased a very affordable sorter at Walmart where I can sort my darks, whites and lighter colored clothing. That way on laundry day I don't have the extra task of sorting laundry, instead I just pull out each color at a time and save myself a load of time. 

Turn on your favorite music station: Laundry should always be done to the sound of your favorite music. If the kids are asleep you can grab your headphones and iPod. Music just makes everything better and I don't mind loading up the wash when I am listening to my favorite song. 

Make yourself a drink before you start: Depending on the time of day that I do laundry, I will either make a nice hot cup of coffee, an iced flavored coffee or a cold sweet tea. Our machines are in the garage so on a hot day nothing feels better than some iced sweet tea as I am going in and out to load the machines.

Make it a family affair: As I mentioned before, my familia and I love getting into the action of folding and sorting piles of clothes together. There is something about the scent and warmth of clean laundry as we chat and catch up on each other's busy days that is very comforting. Even the smaller kids love getting involved and don't mind getting it all put away. Working as a team you also finish much faster.
